In Pokémon: This Gym of Mine, you take on the role of a Gym Leader, managing your team and building your gym to achieve higher ranks. Success relies heavily on strategic planning, resource management, and smart battling. This guide is designed to provide step-by-step advice for each rank and help you finish the game efficiently within 4 to 6 hours.
Pokémon This Gym of Mine Walkthrough Guide
Pre-Game: Planning Your Team
1. Team Preparation Before you even start the game, it’s crucial to plan out your team. Decide which Pokémon you want to use from the outset, keeping in mind their learnsets and potential limitations due to the game’s restricted access to items, TMs, and TRs.
Research your Pokémon: Use websites like Serebii for move availability and Smogon for competitive movesets.
Stat Alterations: Gym starter Pokémon have boosted stats, similar to pseudo-legendaries like Tyranitar. Consider this when building your team.
Regional Variants: Pay attention to new regional forms in the game. However, keep in mind they don’t learn much beyond their natural moveset.
2. Resource Links:
Link to all available Pokémon in-game (Note: Some errors exist, such as Opulite Gardevoir being Psychic/Electric instead of Fairy/Electric).
3. Using Game Files: To check specific stats and move spreads, open the ‘PBS’ folder in the game files and look for ‘pokemon’ or ‘pokemonforms’. This will give you detailed information about each Pokémon’s base stats and move lists.
Rank 0: Getting Started
When you first arrive in the game:
1. Collect Early Items:
Potion, Soothe Bell, Revive (New Day Plaine)
Pokéballs from the lady in town
2. Avoid Trainers: In the Winding Woods, try to avoid unnecessary battles to keep your reputation low. You want to stall game progression early on.
3. Gift Starters: If you plan to use a starter Pokémon from Lillith (in the Cave of Knowledge), collect it early. These Pokémon are set at level 5 and can be hard to level later on due to scaling wild Pokémon.
4. First Rare Candy: Don’t forget to grab the hidden Rare Candy in Winding Woods. It will be helpful later in the game.
5. Train to Level 15:
Before hunting for your full team, level up your starter to level 15.
If you have weak starters (like Swinub or Togepi), use Magikarp from Miser Marsh to train.
Rank 1: First Steps in Gym Building
At Rank 1, you should already have your Pokémon trained to level 15.
1. Mailbox Check: Check your mailbox regularly as you may receive multiple Heart Scales.
2. First Builds: Avoid building any gym structures early in the game. These can drain your resources. Focus instead on training and collecting items like the Gold Nugget in Dragon’s Den and the Eviolite in Mystic Fields.
Rank 2: Expanding Your Gym
Rank 2 is where you start expanding your influence and building up resources.
1. Training: Train your team up to level 30 by battling Lass Bliss (found in front of the gym). This helps build your funds for building plans.
2. Umbal Commercial District: Once unlocked, start buying buildings. Focus on Building Plan 4 first, which boosts funds.
3. Financial Strategy: Sell rare items like the Gold Nugget and Rare Candy to gather enough resources to buy buildings. Build a 2:1 ratio of Building Plan 4 to Building Plan 5.
Rank 3: Completing Your Team
At Rank 3, you need to finalize your team for the endgame.
1. Resource Gathering: Before hunting for the last 3 members of your team, stock up on essential items like TR moves and Ability Patches. Opulence City is where you can buy nature-changing mints and other vital items.
2. Final Training Push: Train your final team members to level 50 using either Lass Bliss battles or EXP Candies purchased from Opulence City.
Ranks 4 to 8: Final Gym Challenges
During these ranks, there’s little new content besides the regular gym challenges.
1. Reputation Management: If you haven’t boosted your reputation yet, now is the time to tackle side quests like building plans, potion donations, and the ghost girl quest.
2. Earning Revenue: Maximize revenue through daily tasks and avoid fast-forwarding days until you’ve finished gathering resources.
Post-Game Content: Extra Challenges
1. Gym Leader Rematches: After the main game, you can challenge gym leaders across various cities. These battles can be tough, so ensure your team is well-prepared.
2. Final Boss: The ultimate challenge lies in the Badlands. The final boss uses six gym starter Pokémon, all with boosted stats. Training your team to level 99 is essential.
3. Resource Management: Collect Rare Candies and EXP Candies to boost your levels. You’ll need about 240 Rare Candies to max out your levels.
